Health practitioners learn about the immense benefits of medicinal cannabis

The first Global Health Initiative conference and masterclass focused on medicinal cannabis in Melbourne in July was an opportunity for Medical Kiwi Director, Dr David Porter, to hear from an excellent line-up of speakers and learn more about the evidence of medicinal cannabis’ effects on chronic pain and common mental health issues and other natural medicine approaches.

“It was really exciting and inspiring to hear from the range of guest speakers who shared their research and clinical experience, in particular the keynote speaker, Dr Sue Sisley MD from Arizona, America who is an expert in post-traumatic stress disorder and medicinal cannabis,” says David.

“A common theme in all the guest speaker’s presentations and discussion during the masterclass was the shared frustration about the lack of knowledge of the immense benefits of medicinal cannabis in treating chronic pain and common mental health conditions.

Thankfully progress is being made, albeit slowly and we are getting closer to a point in time where natural medicine and conventional medicine will meet. It means that in the future when someone goes to a doctor the answer won’t always be to reach for pharmaceutical pills. It won’t always be the best match,” says David
